Bill Gates Didn’t Code MS-DOS

One of the most widespread misconceptions of all time must be the claim that Bill Gates coded MS-DOS. Gates wasn’t really a great programmer (though programming his own software for one of the earliest computers, the Altair 8800, did make him his first million). However, he was a marketing genius. Purchasing the rights to QDOS for US$50,000, he rebranded it into MS-DOS, and later licensed it out to IBM (brilliantly retaining the rights to it) - making a fortune in the process.
