This was the first solution to work on my system. Thanks a lot!
I'm running Hardy with '2.6.24-17-generic #1 SMP i686' and VMware-Workstation 6.0.2. I skipped the step to fix the networking bug, apparently it does not apply to 6.0.2.

Pengko: For the first error, if you still have it, you might want to using tar xvzf instead, or just use the GUI archiver. For the second one, does not using sudo change anything?

Gabriel: Did you do step 6? Editing the makefile.kernel should solve your problem, as it did mine.

Hello,

I've installed VMWare Workstation 6.5 successfully, but every time I start it, it tries to compile VMCI with no success (orange triangle icon).

How can I avoid that? its annoying to have to wait for that "dialogue" to end up.

Thanks in advance!

Can you check whether VMware-workstation-e.x.p-84113.i386.tar.gz is the filename of the file you downloaded from VMWare? You must enter tar zxf filename.tar.gz.
