The Things I Would Do For High Speed Internet Access

What would you do for high speed internet access (e.g. 3 mbit and above)? Would you build a 60m receiving tower - requiring 14,000 pounds of cement - just for a clear signal?

Well, I’m quite sure most of you would not. But… I definitely would. In fact, I’m contemplating doing just that with my ridiculously useless Streamyx connection - which actually bothers to disconnect me at least once a day. And that’s after an independent contractor came over to do some repairs.

Haiz. And Telekom actually announced (Read: complained) recently that 20% of its users utilise 80% of all Streamyx bandwidth through P2P applications like Kazaa and Bittorrent, and that it isn’t rational to upgrade their infrastructure for a “miniority”. Heck, that’s probably the most ludicrous announcement I’ve heard all year. While it might make some economic sense in the short run, I doubt this anti-investment mentality can hold up against the rapidly growing P2P use in Malaysia.

It might be 20% now, but trust me when I say that it’ll be 40% in a few years. Will we have 56k connections disguised as “broadband” Streamyx then?
